Why and how to earn with Paid To Surf

With the literally millions of websites out there trying to sell something, it's very easy for an offer to get lost and never be seen by anyone. So, they advertise and as we all know, advertising costs money. Almost all Get Paid To... programs are splitting the fees received from the advertisers with their members. Also, since the more members a program has actively working it, the more attractive it will be to advertisers, there's another market just to advertise the PTS programs themselves and this also pays us.

There are a few different types of paid program out now. Things really started with Surfbars, where a small bar ran along the top or bottom of your screen, displaying various adverts, so long as you were connected to the Internet. These have pretty much all vanished now, replaced by more direct methods of getting potential customers to see what's on offer.

Paid To Read

These programs, send links to your email box and you must open these, thereby visiting the advertisers website, in order to be paid. Most of these display a timer in a top frame letting you know when you have visited for long enough to earn a credit to your account.

Recommended example programs; PenniesByEmail, WePaid

Paid To Click

Are programs where you login to a website and then visit advertisers pages from there. Once again, the visits are timed and you have to stay long enough to get credit.

Recommended example programs; Tesas's Tea Mails DonkeyMails

Paid to Play

We all need a little fun in our lives and you can actually earn a little money, playing games. Usually doesn't pay nearly so well as the 'serious' clicking, but it's good to take a break every now and then.

Paid to Surf

Traffic exchanges almost exclusively these days, where you spend time seeing what others are trying to promote/sell and these are discussed more fully here.

Paid to Promote

The banners displayed on these pages are either direct links to a program I am actively promoting, or being supplied by a paid banner company that will reimburse me for allowing them to use my website to display their banners. Most offer a wide range of choices, so you can tailor your advertising, so as not to violate the various requirements of where you're drawing your traffic from, e.g. those sites that limit pages to one popup only.

Paid to have an Opinion

Folks wandering the streets with clipboards asking questions never has been a very good way to collect market survey data, as it has far too many inherent problems, but until recently it was the best that companies could come up with as a way of collecting the mood of the "man on the street". Now with computers increasingly being present in homes and their use increasing, the market research companies are gladly tapping that resource and to get folks to go through the hassle of sitting at their PC/Mac are actually paying money, sometimes significant amounts. I'd advise that you don't go giving money to these folks that claim you can earn up to $175 an hour doing surveys (something I've never come close to doing!), if you pay for their lists. Most of these list contents can be found fairly easily with some use of a decent search engine anyway, which is where I found the ones I'm a member of for the most part.

Probably WON'T Pay

Bubble games, HYIP Ponzi, randomisers.
You'll see a lot of adverts promising huge returns for a single payment. Sounds wonderful to be able to earn tens of thousands of dollars for a 'one time' payment of a small sum. Applying the "If it looks too good to be true...." rule and analysing the 'business model' (for want of a better term), you'll quickly notice that for anyone to be paid these amazing ammounts, absolutely gigantic numbers of new members have to join and pay the initial "investment" cost. Just like the "recruit # members" and get residual income for life ads, using your calculator for a few minutes will tell you that after not too many levels, you wind up at a number of new members greater than the population of the planet Earth. OPPPS!!

"Ah, but folks are getting paid. There are testimonials to say so." This is true, folks are earning money, the people who set the program up and those who joined very early (my best guess would be first day of launch) will make money, after that getting your initial payment back would be close to a miracle is my thinking, as every time someone makes a profit, someone else missed out on nearly breaking even. To add to the fun, most of these programs can very easily be classified as "pyramid" schemes which are illegal in most of the First World.

Now, I'm not accusing anyone here of scamming, or any other such mischief. I'm sure that any number of these 'opportunities' are started by honest folks, it's just that the very model the programs use mean that a lot of folks (the more successful the program, the higher this number) are going to be left out of pocket.
